Independent Novel Study
Students have been asked to bring in a novel or to choose a novel from my classroom library or our school learning commons that they will be completing an independent novel study on. This is similar to the book club assignment that we did before Christmas where the majority of the assignment will be completed at home as homework. We will be going over this assignment in class this week and students are asked to have their books at school to be approved by me before Thursday. We will be completing this novel study starting Thursday over the next 5 weeks.
This week in Math ...
We will be continuing to work on solving word problems using mental math strategies for subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. Students will be having a quiz on Thursday which will involve identifying which operation to use when given a word problem and then using that operation to solve the problem. This is very similar to the homework that they have this week on hapara.
This week in language ...
We will be continuing with our literacy centers which contain reading and writing tasks. We will also be continuing with our personal narratives. Students have chosen a moment in their lives which they are retelling through narrative. Students are also working on point of view as they will be rewriting these stories a second time from the perspective of someone else in the story. Ask your child what moment they have chosen to write about.
Those students who have not yet brought back their assessment folders are asked to return them this week.
