Week #2

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

We had a great first week in grade 5! We have started learning about blogs and have begun discussions around the Global Read Aloud text that we will be studying along with other students all around the world starting on September 30th. The text that we will be reading is called "Front Desk" and I encourage students to NOT read the text in advance of us studying it in class. I have posted helpful links both to the blog format that we will be using as well as to the Global Read Aloud website under "Helpful Language Links" in the sidebar of this blog. I highly recommend that every student takes time every day outside of school to read any text of their choosing. We will be visiting the library starting next week and students will have the opportunity to take out a book then. I also have a classroom library which students are also welcome to use.

This week in Math, we will be working on our 3D geometry unit which we started last week. I have posted a link to some extra practice questions based on what we have been working on this past week in the "Extra Math Work" section that can be found at the bottom of this site page. This is where I will frequently post extra work for students who would like to do some extra practice. I ask that students either print off a copy of the google doc or that they "make a copy" in their own google drive on which they can complete the work and share it with myself once they are finished. Please note this is not an assigned homework task it is simply for students who wish to have some extra practice. We will be starting mathletics at a later time.

I hope to meet many of you this coming Tuesday evening at our open house from 5 - 6:30pm. There will not be any formal classroom presentations on this evening so please feel free to drop in at any time throughout the open house.

Have a great week!

Thank you,
Danielle Cooper
